Essie

This weekend, in an effort to lift my spirits, I did a little bit of shopping. This time it wasn’t for shoes or jewelry or that sweater dress I’ve been eying (still too warm out for that). No, this time I opted for nail polish, and when it comes to nail polish, my favorite brand of all time is Essie.
I can’t quite put my finger on what I love about Essie. When I first got into wearing polish I picked Essie because it offered the most beautiful pale pink shades. I can’t tell you how many bottles of Ballet Slippers I went through. It was the perfect shade of pale pale pink. It looked like a french manicure and was perfect for every day wear. As the company grew, they put out more and more lovely colors in reds, mauves, burgundies and pinks, each with unique and catchy names. They became irresistible and it was hard not to get hooked, especially when all the nail salons I ever went to carried that brand.
After I moved south it became difficult to find spas that used Essie, so I simply bought my own polish and did my own nails at home. It was easy enough to do and I was happy to save a few dollars. But as time went on, I gradually stopped wearing polish. I suppose it was because it was easier and saved time. Plus, since I wasn’t walking past a nail salon on every block like I did up north, so I guess I just forgot. That is, until this weekend.
I can’t remember why I was feeling bummed out, but I do remember thinking buying some fun Essie colors would be a good idea and perked right up. Bonus that I had a coupon to my neighborhood Ulta store too. So I drove up, happily strolled in and spent a good 20 minutes picking out nail polish colors. This may sound really weird, but that was a very enjoyable 20 minutes. It was hard to not walk out with a dozen different colors, but in the end I chose Bahama Mama, Angora Cardi, Very Cranberry and Watermelon. I’m looking forward to picking up another color or two when the new line for Fall is released next week. So excited!
