Shopping Diet

A couple weeks ago, I decided to go on a shopping diet. I haven’t really defined the terms of this diet or determined my end goal, but I do know that since I went on it, I haven’t bought a thing. Now, basic necessities are OK, so groceries, gas, the occasional coffee, medical copays, bills, dog food, et cetera are all fine. I’m not allowing myself to buy anymore clothes, shoes, bags, perfume, makeup, accessories and the like. No more stuff for my closet, not even if it’s on sale. And no trips to Boston, NYC or Cali either. It’s been two weeks now and I’ve been doing really well. Wait, I did buy some kitchen stuff at Bed Bath & Beyond. Does that count?? Hmmm, I’m undecided. I don’t go there all the time, I just needed some containers and cutting mats. Anyway, nothing new’s been added to my closet and I’m not flying anywhere so I’m pretty happy about that. I’m sure my wallet is happy too. I still make my regular rounds at my favorite shopping sites though, just to see if there’s anything new. I guess it sounds like waving a donut in front of a diabetic but I’ve been able to exercise a lot of self control and feel pretty confident that I’ll be OK. As to how long the diet will last, I’ll see how I feel at the end of the month, and if I’m feeling good maybe I’ll extend that to the end of summer. But for now, my money will stay put.
